Diving deeper into what amenities are favorable to guests, we wanted to check which ones were the most frequently offered. Our data set has the amenities in the form of a list per property listing ID. In order to check which ones are more frequent, we made a word cloud as an initial analysis of what is on offer.
Looking at each city individually, we wanted to focus on what were the facilities that were offered most of the time. This is important on two levels for the guests:
To know what is the basic facilities to expect
To know how just how rare a special facility is
Figure 1: Word cloud for Antwerp
Figure 2: Word cloud for Ghent
Figure 3: Word cloud for Brussels
First off, we notice that detectors, kitchens, heating. parking and WiFi are the most basic things offered in ALL listings irrespective of city
There is also an overall sense of all kitchen equipment being offered - this could indicate that it caters to the budget tourist who will cook some of his meals or the long term stay who could be having people over
Another general feeling is the family friendliness - kids, babies, cribs etc.
Antwerp seems to be most per friendly given that the size of the word pet is larger than for the other two
All 3 cities have very few listings that have pools - this could indicate that we have less hotels and more serviced apartments and homestays
"Hangers" and "Laptop" seem to be prevalent is Brussels and Ghent but not in Antwerp - could indicate that more business clientele choose AirBnB in these cities
Ghent seems to have a higher regard for safety - fire, smoke, safety, aid, etc.
This was an interesting exercise to just get an understanding of which city offers what and what the city is like!
P.S. Don't bother taking cutlery to Ghent as most of them seem to offer silverware! ;)
